Plastic and Glass optical fibre cable

  • Polymer Optical Fibre (POF)
  • Plastic Cladded Fibre)
  • Glass Optical Fibre (GOF)

The optical transmission of messages in Fibre Optic Cable (FOC) operates according to the principle
of 'total internal reflection'. The reflection is created by an optically thinner cladding placed around
the light conducting core (interface) and conducted through the FOC.

Applications for POF and PCF cable
These cable are popularly used for data security and in areas with space constraints.

-Bus systems in automisation
-Machine construction and plant engineering
-Building technology

Applications for GOF cable
These cable are suitable for transmitting large amount of data at high speed over a distance of
approximately 60m to several kilometres.

-Local Area Networks (LAN)
-Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN)
-Wide Area Networks (WAN)

>> HITRONIC®POF FD PE-PUR
(Polymer Optical Fibre (POF) with outer sheath)

The HITRONIC®POF FD PE-PUR is made from polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) with black
polyethylene (PE) protective cover. The polyethylene outer sheath provides additional resistance
to oil, wear and tear and microbes.

The fibre consists of 217 single cores and well known as Multicore-Stepindex-POF with high flexibility
and less bending attenuation. In addition, the fibre has strain-relief Aramid fibres and PUR outer
sheath (orange). The PUR sheath is adhesion and halogen-free, flame retardant according to
IEC 60332-1 and resistant to hydrolysis.

Applications

The HITRONIC®POF FD PE-PUR are used in industrial applications for interface extensions
between computers and peripherals, for optical signal transmission where high flexibility is
required such as power chains as well as for audio systems. Transmission is between 60m to
660nm wavelength.
